Windows Glossary, Definitions
Dual Glazed Window - two layers of glass sealed together with an air space between. can reduce heat conduction through glass by as much as 50 percent.
Low-E Window
- glazing thin metallic film or coating between two glass panes that selectively rejects some energy wavelengths, greatly reducing heat transfer through the glass.
Double-Hung Window - has movable upper and lower sashes for maximum control of ventilation.
Slider Window - contemporary appearance, two separate sashes - one is fixed the other slides in track.
Half Round Window - a 180 degree arched style window used as an architectural accent.
Raked Window - two unequal sides creating a 90-degree angle with a third diagonal side connecting the outer points of those two sides.
Transom Window - A window over an entry door or over eye level windows.
Sidelight Window - The window directly to the side of the entry door.
Beveled Glass - Glass with a slanted edge that has been cut to achieve a prismatic effect.
Overlay Glass - The process of laminating film and lead to clear glass to create art glass.
Prairie Design - Straight lines and right angles in simple layouts.
Post Modern Design- A deft blend of historically inspired architectural details, overscaled, twisted and skewed to impart a sense of whimsy.
Art Deco Design - Style of design popular in the 1920's and 1930's, characterized by geometric shapes, smooth lines and streamlined forms.
